The Foreign Language Department at Cathedral High School subscribes to the sentiment expressed long ago by Charles V of Spain to François I of France that "every new language one acquires is a new life." To that end, extend life on an international border by offering "new lives" in French and Spanish. Language study opens new vistas for our students and allows them to become aware of the increasingly global community that the world is rapidly becoming.
We challenge our students to become comfortable in all aspects of language study: writing, listening, reading, and speaking in their second language. For these reasons, language study is an important part of the intellectual development of our young men.
