Religious Education
Goals and Objectives: The Religious Education Department of Cathedral High School works to develop knowledge, attitudes, and behavior of Christian faith among our students, within the LaSallian educational tradition. We will communicate a fundamental body of religious knowledge, an experience of Church, an acceptance of Jesus Christ, openness to the Holy Spirit, and the vision of the Kingdom of God.
To reach this goal our teachers will:
provide classroom instruction that includes the history of the Catholic Church, its Scriptures, worship, and Sacraments; Christian doctrine and moral teaching; worship and sacraments; and the Church's mission in the world
help students to develop skills in analysis, synthesis, and other critical thinking, especially in religious studies, and enable them to integrate religious knowledge into a holistic Christian world-view
model an acceptance of Jesus Christ, and encourage an active response to His call to serve others, as prayerful, reflective ministers and ecumenical leaders, in the Church and in the world stimulate openness to the Holy Spirit in all areas of the student's life foster a healthy self-image and love of self in each student that leads to a deep and abiding love of others, and ultimately to the love of God encourage students to become loving and critical members of the Church, to become people who search for Christ-like responses to the moral dilemmas and justice issues they face, and to become hopeful, visionary, and prophetic seekers of the Kingdom of God - begun, but not yet completed.
