Science Department

The role of science in a student's development combines specific skills of science with an understanding of the relationship of science and technology to other aspects of human activity. Science is presented as a dynamic process of inquiry rather than a static accumulation of facts. Thus, a solid science background is a valuable aid in finding creative solutions to complex human problems.

In presenting its curriculum, the Science Department at Cathedral High School tries to achieve the following goals:

!

!

!

!

!

to develop students' abilities to reason analytically and quantitatively;

to involve students in the scientific mode of inquiry: a cycle of hypothesis, prediction, and experiment;

to acquaint students with the fascinating study of the physical and biological worlds;

to aid students in discovering and pursuing individual interests;

to provide students with the knowledge necessary to make informed choices as Christians in an increasingly technological society.
