Wednesday, October 14, 2009 was a special day at Cathedral High School. This year’s Career Day was directed by returning alumni. Each speaker brought to the conference their personal information about the career path they chose from the time they left Cathedral as a graduating senior.
The 2010 seniors who were invited to this conference heard a wide variety of life experiences. For many of the speakers, the road they traveled to their current career was interesting if not unexpected at times. They all spoke of the sacrifices they had to make when either taking their classes or when they began their career. Few successful people like to go back to the “lean” days when they just set up their practice or began to work for a big firm. Those days are often painful memories. However these early days created life lessons that they use even today. The candor in which each revealed their chosen career brought new insight to our students.
Careers are not the same as seen on television or in the movies. We heard the real thing, the real life of a doctor, a lawyer, an airline pilot and many more. Maybe not a movie but it was a day of drama none the less.
Career Day 2009 included these alumni:
Dr. Ken Berumen ’79, Director of Emergency Medicine Sierra Providence Network
Jack Bumgardner ’92, ERA Sellers Real Estate
Adrian Dodds ’98, Financial Advisor, Smith Barney Financial
Brian Farrish ’91, Vice President Wells Fargo Advisors
