There are many ways to make a gift to Cathedral High School. Some have added benefits for the donor depending on age, type of asset contributed and the form of gift selected. Cathedral High School is ready to work with donors to fashion the most beneficial gift for the donor, for the donor's family and for the next generation of Cathedral students.
WHAT YOU CAN GIVE:
Cash – A gift of cash is the most popular type of charitable gift. Make a Gift Online or Print and Mail a Gift Form
Marketable and Non-Marketable Securities – When you give appreciated securities held long-term (more than one year) you will receive an income tax deduction equal to their market value and you avoid all capital gains taxes. Click here for more information on making a Gift of Securities.
Tangible Personal Property – Gifts of appreciated personal property such as paintings, library books, cars, or musical instruments entitle donors to a charitable deduction at market value if the use of such property is directly related to Cathedral's educational functions. Real estate – There are three common methods of transfer: outright deeding of the property to Cathedral High School; a gift of the property with retained life income through a gift annuity or charitable remainder trust; or a gift of a personal residence or farm with retained life tenancy.
Retirement Plan Assets – Designating Cathedral High School as a beneficiary of a retirement plan is an easy way to make a bequest to Cathedral and avoid both income and estate taxes on your gift.
Life Insurance – If a donor names Cathedral High School the owner and beneficiary, the cash surrender value of the policy or the cost of a replacement policy is deductible as a charitable contribution.
HOW YOU CAN GIVE:
OUTRIGHT GIFT – An outright gift is a gift transferred immediately from you to Cathedral High School.
GIFTS THAT GIVE BACK:
Charitable Gift Annuity – The donor transfers cash or securities to Cathedral High School and receives a lifetime annuity guaranteed by all the assets of Cathedral.
Charitable Remainder Trust – The donor transfers assets to the trustee and retains the right to receive income for one or more lives or for a term of years, followed by a gift of the remainder to Cathedral High School.
Pooled Income Fund – The donor's gift is invested with similar gifts from other donors, and all donors receive their proportionate share of the fund's annual net income.
OTHER TYPES OF GIFTS:
Charitable Lead Trust – A donor transfers assets to a trustee of their choice who makes annual payments to Cathedral High School for the term of the trust. When the trust terminates, the remaining assets revert to the donor or are transferred to heirs designated by the donor.
Retained Life Estate – Donors can give their personal residence, vacation home or farm to Cathedral High School and retain the right to use the residence for their lifetime. Bequests – Bequests to Cathedral High School are deductible from your estate and represent a major source of support for general endowment as well as specific programs that will benefit future generations of students.
