Principal’s Weekly Update May 1-6,  2017



Kudos to all our honor society moderators and admin. who all worked to make this year’s “induction ceremony” successful!  Thank you all.


Monday May 1, 2017 – Irish School Mass & CHS Chapel Blessing by Bishop Mark Seitz – Bell 3 at the Cathedral.  All students and faculty in Irish standard.


AP Exams May 2nd 8 am through 3 pm; AP Econ exam May 10.  See Ms. Serrano should you have any questions.  Guidance Department proctoring.


Friday May 5 – DelaSalle Day @ Veteran’s Park (northeast)  8:30 am-1:30 pm.  All students are to be dropped off directly at Veteran’s Park.  Jeans; t shirts; shorts etc.  Any student not picked up by 1:45 pm is to be picked up at:  Northeast Police Regional Command center @ 9600 Dyer Street/Will Ruth Street (915) 212-8100.  Faculty will no longer remain with the student – instead student will be delivered to the Police Command Center for pick up.


Senior Final ExamsMay 8 (Part 1);  May 9 (Part 2). 8 a.m.- 3 p.m. in their  classrooms.  Senior textbooks are to be turned in on Tuesday  May 9 in classrooms. 

Last day for seniors on campus is Wednesday May 10.


Freshman, Sophomore, Junior Final Exams – May 23, 24, 25.  Final exam schedule follows this page.  Last day for all students on campus is May 25.


Senior Baccaluareate Mass May 19, 2017   6 p.m. St. Stephens Church   on George Dieter Avenue.      

Senior Commencement  May 20, 2017   10 a.m. – Civic Center.

CHS 2017-2018  Online CHS Registration  continues!



Honor Society Induction Ceremony – Tuesday, April 25 – MPB 5 pm – 6 pm  Any student being inducted to an honor society must be in Irish Standard.  Line up begins at 4:30 pm outside the MPB.  Do not be late.  Parents and families are invited and welcomed!    Inductions include:  Math Honor Society, English Honor Society,  Art Honor Society, Science Honor Society. Spanish Honor Society and National Honor Society.


Senior  “overnight” retreat – begins Wednesday at noon in the MPB, overnight in the MPB and continues to Thursday morning in the old gym.  See Sister Dolorette (campus minister, should you have any questions).  This is a class level requirement.


Early Dismissal – Thursday, April 27, 2017  Bell #5 – student release 1:20 pm.



CHS Band Spring Concert – Friday April 28 Periods 1,2,3 in the auditorium. Parents are welcome!


Senior Dinner – Friday April 28  6 pm @ EPIC Railway Event Center.


Retirement Announcement :

After close to 30 years at Cathedral High School in the capacity of science teacher in the areas of AP biology, Anatomy & Physiology, Infectious Diseases,  Conservation Biology; as  Curriculum Coordinator, Assistant Principal and Principal – I will be retiring at the end of this school year.    Thank you for allowing me the  opportunity  of being in  catholic service to such a fine academic institution, in assisting our concerned parents, in guiding our young men and lastly, in the day to day supervising of our faculty members.  Blessings…..  Mrs. Aurora Lujan, M.Ed., Principal



“Coffee with the Principal” Our May  meeting will be the last parent meeting scheduled for this school year.  We will met on   May 12 9 a.m. in the Library.  Come join us  for the last school month event.  I look forward to meeting you!
