Edgar Romero ’02

After graduating from a private Catholic school in Juarez ‘Teresiano’, my parents and I decided that those values were intrinsic for my growth and development. I registered to continue the path and teachings taught in that of a private catholic school, so I enrolled in Cathedral High School for the fall of 1999, right off of ‘Secundaria’ in Juarez, MX. We felt it was important for me to establish myself in both English and Spanish proficiently and decided to switch my learning to that of the English language and start preparing me for the college experience early on.

My most cherished moments academically was having Brother Nick teach a couple of classes during my Sophomore and Junior years, and understanding what it took to be a great mentor. Socially, my most cherished moments, were hanging out with my fellow classmates in the dirt parking lot, where today you have added the locker rooms and weight room in the recently enhanced gym and multi-purpose building.

After graduating from Cathedral, I joined New Mexico State University to earn 2 degrees and 1 minor. I have a B.S in Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management with a minor in Marketing, a B.A. in Spanish Literature and linguistics and just recently I earned a M.A from NMSU in Spanish / Border and Latin American Studies.

After graduating with my bachelors from NMSU, I started working for the hospitality industry in Dallas, TX and Chicago, IL for almost 5 years managing restaurants. It was not until 2012 I realized that my success would be found in Sales. I have been in Sales for the last 4.5 years and currently I am the Sales Manager for Allegiance Staffing in El Paso, TX. I have grown our branch 25% since I started in October 2015 and am projected to double business within our community within the next year and a half. My previous experience is found in electrical distribution sales, where I averaged about $2 million in annual sales

Cathedral taught me many things, I would have to underline a few attributes; responsibility, values, commitment, leadership.

“What are you proudest of?”
I am proud of many things, but I am most proud of having a family and being able to spend time with my wife and daughter.

“What lesson from Cathedral do you carry with you?”
I took a lot of lessons from Cathedral, from working hard to get rid of an accent, to establishing myself in a different country with different values and customs, to realizing what a commitment it takes for our parents to be part of this private community.

“Do you have a message (lesson/observation) for a current Cathedral student?”
Cathedral is a lot of fun and responsibility combined. Cherish your experience and be thankful for who put you in this position.
