Javier Porras ’10

I am a proud graduate of the Cathedral High School class of 2010. While at Cathedral, I played basketball at both the JV and Varsity levels. In addition, I was a member of several honor societies that allowed me to participate in many community service events.

There is no way I could have become the man I am now if I didn’t attend Cathedral. My parents did everything possible for me and my brothers to have a great education. They knew that if we graduated from La Cate, we would have a greater chance at succeeding in life.

There are many things that I miss from my Cathedral days, but my most cherished moment was when I played for the JV basketball team alongside my brother Rual and my Cate brothers.

After graduating from Cathedral I decided to attend Marquette University. There, I earned my bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering in May of 2015. I am currently living in Milwaukee, WI. Here, I work as a structural engineer at Precast Engineering Company where I design concrete structures in both Wisconsin and Illinois. I am in constant interaction with architects and contractors. By applying the great communication skills I learned in high school and college, I am able to excel in my field.

“What are you proudest of?”
What I am proudest of is that throughout my life I have taken advantage of the opportunities that I have been presented with.

“What lesson from Cathedral do you carry with you?”
A lesson from Cathedral that I carry with me is to learn as much as possible from the teachers, classmates, friends, and family members that I interact with every day.

“Do you have a message (lesson/observation) for a current Cathedral student?”
Don’t follow the herd, be original! Try to get outside your comfort zone and you will be amazed by the things you can accomplish.
