Pablo Bustamante ’10

I graduated from Cathedral High School in 2010 where I played soccer for three years, was part of the Dual Credit program, and was part of the National Honor Society as well as the Spanish Honor Society.

I was about 8 years old when my dad told me that I was going to go to Cathedral High School. At the time I was studying in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, which made me wonder as to why my dad really pushed the idea of Cathedral unto me. Until later I realized that it was a tradition in our family. My grandfather attended and graduated from Cathedral High School back in 1942. I also had a cousin that had graduated from Cathedral in 2003, as well as a cousin a year older than me who graduated in 2009.

One of the reasons I loved my time at Cathedral and I really cherish the time I was there was due to the brotherhood that you establish with the people you meet at Cathedral. My best friends to this date are mostly from Cathedral High School and I really miss being able to hang out with them and grow together as we did in those days, especially the soccer trips to the state tournament.

After graduating from Cathedral I attended Texas A&M University where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Systems Engineering with a minor in Nuclear Engineering and Mathematics. I am currently an Operational Excellence Engineer for Honeywell Aerospace at their Albuquerque campus. I am also getting my Master degree in Quality Engineering from the University of Texas at El Paso. Cathedral High School definitely taught me how to strive to be a better student and more than anything it taught me how to be a proactive student/person.

“What are you proudest of?”
I am really proud of all the hard work that I have put in and where it has gotten me. I am proud of being an El Pasoan/Juarenze and everything that it entails being from the border. I am proud of my friends/family and all of their accomplishments, and finally, I am proud of being a Cathedral Fighting Irish.

“What lesson from Cathedral do you carry with you?”
All of the different lessons that were given to me either by the faculty at Cathedral or by my friends and peers. Most noticeable I will always take with me that hard work pays off and I can see that now when I run into peers and see that they are doing well.

“Do you have a message (lesson/observation) for a current Cathedral student?”
Do not stress and enjoy the moment right now. Trust the process and do everything to try and become a better person. Get involved and try out things that get you out of your comfort zone. Looking back these are the times that you are going to miss the most so just relax and enjoy.
