Carlos Hernandez ’10

I graduated from Cathedral in 2010. At Cathedral I played soccer all four years and also played tennis during my senior year. I was also the President for the Spanish Honor Society and was an active member in the National Honor Society.

I decided to pursue my high school education at Cathedral because my uncle and cousin had also gone to Cathedral and they had told me all about the brotherhood that they experienced and I wanted to be a part of that tradition. Also, I had gone to Catholic school all my life, and Cathedral would allow me to continue growing in my faith. In addition, my parents had no doubt that Cathedral would be the right place for me to grow up into the man I am today.

Some of the things that I miss the most and will always remember were the soccer and tennis trips that I went on with some of the people I am still glad to call my best friends to this date.

After Cathedral, I attended the University of Texas at Austin and graduated in December 2014 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and a Bachelor of Arts in Biology.

I am currently a first year dental student at Columbia University College of Dental Medicine. Upon successful completion of the Doctor of Dental Surgery program at Columbia, I plan to pursue a specialty in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. As an alumnus of Cathedral High School I carry the values of hard work and dedication instilled me wherever I go.

“What are you proudest of?”
I am proudest of being able to pursue my dream of becoming a dental professional and at the same time being able to achieve a balance with my non-academic life by being able to enjoy time with friends and family.

“What lessons from Cathedral do you carry with you?”
Do what you love and you will never have to work a single day in your life.

“Do you have a message (lesson/observation) for a current Cathedral student?”
Enjoy your time at Cathedral and take advantage of all the opportunities this school has to offer. Those four years were some of the best years of my life. The friends that I made in Cathedral are still some of my best friends to this date. Dream big and always remember that anything is possible if you set your mind to it. Viva la Cate!
