Chapter 1 Learning Objectives
 

     
    Upon completion of Chapter 1, the Cathedral student should should be able to:
       
      1.  Discuss the impact of government on people.

      2.  Distinguish among the fundamental concepts of government, politics, and public policy.

      3.  Understand how government, politics, and public policy are interrelated.

      4.  Determine the essential principles of traditional democratic theory.

      5.  Address the issue of the scope of government and explain how the scope of government is relevant to an understanding of democracy.

      6.  Describe how liberals and conservatives differ in their positions concerning the appropriate role and scope of government.

      7.  Begin to assess the two questions that are central to governing and that serve as themes for this course in GOVT 2305 - American Government and Politics: "How should we be governed?" and "What should government do?"
