Carlos Corral ’02

My name is Carlos Corral and I graduated from Cathedral in 2002. After graduating from Cathedral, I attended the University of Texas at Austin, where I graduated with a degree in Radio, Television, and Film in 2007. The decision to attend Cathedral came from growing up with various friends in elementary and middle school who all had hopes of attending Cathedral when they were older. Many of my friends had older brothers who attended Cathedral and I always heard amazing things about the school and how it made an impact with everyone attended.

One of my most cherished moments at Cathedral was when my English teacher, Mr. Thorpson, allowed my friends and me to make short films from various novels that we read in class, which included Beowulf and Brave New World. It was this moment that gave me the experience to pursue a career as creative filmmaker later on in college.

After graduating from Cathedral, I moved to Austin, TX to begin my career as a filmmaker by attending the film school at the University of Texas at Austin. Once I completed my journey in Austin, I moved back home to El Paso, where my brother Octavio Corral (Class of 2003) and I began to expand our online marketing company that specializes in website development and video production in El Paso. When I’m not busy with work, I focus my time in helping El Paso grow as a film community.

“What are you proudest of?”
I am most proud of the first time I voted in a local election in El Paso. Since I was 18 years old during my senior year, Chief Justice Richard Barajas instilled in me the value of voting and why it was an important right that should not be taken for granted.

“What lesson from Cathedral do you carry with you?”
The most important lesson(s) came from Brother Nick. Not only was he an amazing teacher, but he also turned out to be one of the best mentors I’ve ever had in my life thus far. The way I approached decisions in my life changed after I graduated from Cathedral, all thanks to the wisdom he passed on to me.

“Do you have a message (lesson/observation) for a current Cathedral student?”
Being successful means going out there and making things happen, not waiting for things to happen, so fear forward.
