As a 2009 graduate of Cathedral, I participated in cross country my sophomore year and played basketball my junior and senior years. Participating in the Early Admissions program helped me in preparing for my Undergraduate career by taking college courses while in high school.
Having attended school in Juarez my whole life, I decided to pursue my education at Cathedral to prepare for college in the United States. My older friends attending Cathedral convinced me that La Cate was the best choice for my future. Coming from a Catholic family, I also knew that Cathedral would provide the tools to excel in academics while embracing faith in my life.
What I miss the most from Cathedral are the basketball games and trips I was part of. I met most of my best friends while playing basketball, and we still talk about our days at Cathedral all the time.
After Cathedral, I attended the University of Texas at El Paso and graduated in May 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. I also attended Graduate school at UTEP and obtained my Master of Science in Construction and Project Management in May 2015.
I am happily married and live in El Paso, TX. I currently work for VEMAC, a local contractor/engineering firm. I have worked as an estimator and Quality Control Manager during my 3 years with the firm. I also plan on taking my PE exam in 2016, which would recognize me as a Professional Engineer in the state of Texas. Last year, I had the opportunity to prepare a construction estimate for the recently completed renovation of the pool area at Cathedral HS.
Cathedral always taught me to be disciplined and to conduct my work with honesty and dedication.
“What are you proudest of?”
I am very proud of the brotherhood I developed with my classmates at Cathedral. I know that wherever I go, I can count on my Cate brothers.
“What lesson from Cathedral do you carry with you?”
Hard work, integrity, and faith will carry a man to success
“Do you have a message (lesson/observation) for a current Cathedral student?”
Take advantage of the opportunities presented to you right now. Get involved with your school and embrace the Cate brotherhood every single day. Take as many Early Admission courses as possible; they are really going to help you in your college career.
