Jorge Escarcega ’10

My class year was 2010 and I participated in swimming for my 4 years at Cate. My parents decided to put me in Cate because they knew it was a renowned and respected high school which would give me the tools to succeed in the future.

What I cherish and miss the most from Cate is the brotherhood feeling I felt as soon as I walked into the building. I am still pretty close and good friends with many people from Cate and they remind me every day what Cate was all about.

I started at UTEP right after graduation and then transferred to Incarnate Word where I swam under scholarship for the university for 4 years and won one Division 1 conference title and 2 runner-up titles along the way.

Currently I am finishing my MBA at the University of the Incarnate Word where I will graduate from in May. My time in Cate has helped shape me to be the person I am today. Through the values and knowledge taught to us while there I can safely say it has given me the tools to keep succeeding in life and everything I do.

“What are you proudest of?”
What I am proudest of is making the decision to stay in Cate after my first semester there. When I first started there I was doubtful of whether I had made the right choice or not and considered transferring to another school but after a couple of months I knew I was in the right place and what I could call my home away from home.

“What lesson from Cathedral do you carry with you?”
I carry the lessons of having respect, courtesy, and humility in everything you do. I also carry the lessons of pride Cathedral taught me and what it means to be a part of the Cathedral brotherhood and legacy.

“Do you have a message (lesson/observation) for a current Cathedral student?”
My message for a current student would be to tell them not to wait for things to happen but to make things happen. By putting in the hard work is how good things will come. And of course to enjoy their time in Cate and take advantage of all the opportunities that are given to them there.
