Jose D. Levario ’95

Going to Cathedral High School was a chance for my brothers and me to improve our prospects for a quality college education.

My family and I are from Anthony, TX and after tagging along my cousin, a Cathedral High School graduate, his senior year, we were enamored with the tradition, brotherhood, and the caliber of young men of Cathedral High. It was at that time, that my brothers and I asked our parents to send us to Cathedral when we became of age.

My twin brother and I graduated in 1995 after which, I attended the University Of Notre Dame and graduated in 1999 with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. My younger brother graduated in 1996 with high honors. One of the most profound experiences I had at Cathedral was the interaction with my friends and classmates. Being around some of the most brilliant minds, on a daily basis, motivated me to not only be a better student, but gave me the confidence to challenge myself in all aspects.

Currently, I am the Chief Financial Officer of One Source Federal Credit Union in El Paso, TX. Coming out of Notre Dame, I worked for the largest public accounting firm in the world out of San Diego, CA. After which, I pursued a passion and went into teaching at Loretto Academy where I also coached basketball and later served as the school’s Director of Finance. After 4.5 years at Loretto, I served as the Director of Corporate Tax at Hunt Companies, Inc. for 7 years.

My classmates and I just celebrated our 20 year class reunion and for many of us it was the first time we’ve seen each other since high school. Nonetheless…it was as if we never left. That’s the beauty of Cathedral, brotherhood.

“What are you proudest of?”
I’m most proud of the sacrifice my brothers, my parents and I put forth to into attending Cathedral. It was the toughest era of my life and by far, very much worth the experience.

“What lesson from Cathedral do you carry with you?”
The biggest lessons I take from Cathedral is to always strive to challenge myself and never be afraid of competition…seek it.

Do you have a message (lesson/observation) for a current Cathedral student?”
Your greatest lessons will not come from the books you study, but from the people you surround yourself with. I am eternally grateful to my classmates and teachers who without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
