Manuel Hernandez ’06

I graduated from Cathedral High School as part of the Class of 2006. I was a member of the National Honor Society, the French Honor Society, and was also a part of our football team for all four years. My family placed great value on a Catholic education, which for me began at Loretto Academy and then continued at St. Patrick’s Cathedral for elementary and middle school; the decision to attend Cathedral High School was simply the next step along that path, and I remain grateful to my mother, aunt, and grandmother for their good judgment and sacrifice in that regard.

In 2010, I went on to graduate from the University of Texas at El Paso with my Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and a minor in Legal Reasoning. I then received my Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the Texas Tech University School of Law in 2013. Among various other work experiences, I have had the privilege of serving a fellowship with the CIA Office of General Counsel in Washington, D.C. I am currently licensed to practice law across Texas and New Mexico, including some of the federal district courts within those jurisdictions.

My professional focus is in providing civil litigation and appellate services to families for personal injury and wrongful death claims as part of my work for the law firm of Fadduol, Cluff, Hardy & Conaway, P.C. In my experience, the legal profession is one of service, and the integrity and character emphasized at Cathedral intertwine with the way I practice law to this day.

Camaraderie and school spirit is what I miss most about Cathedral. The way both the student body and faculty embrace the proud traditions is simply something one must experience to understand fully.

“What are you proudest of?”
I am proud of being the first lawyer in my family. Approximately 3% of all lawyers across the United States are Hispanic. I am proudest of validating the sacrifices made by my family to help me defy the odds.

“What lesson from Cathedral do you carry with you?” and “Do you have a message (lesson/observation) for a current Cathedral student?”
The lesson from Cathedral that I carry with me is the same message I have for current students: “…whether the odds be great or small Cathedral High will win over all.” That phrase from our fight song contains a powerful message for the real world challenges that will come your way. Cathedral is all of us, current and former students alike. Realize that your actions are in large part a reflection of where you came from and where you are headed. Define victory in your own way, but never let the odds discourage you from the fight. Viva La Cate.
