Jorge Almeida ’06

I graduated from Cathedral in 2006 and I was involved in many different things, from being Co-Captain of the Varsity soccer team to Speech and Debate, to Spanish Honor Society and Journalism. I think the reason I decided to attend Cathedral was because I knew the value of a Catholic education and knew that my years at Cathedral would instill in me many values I would need to be a successful, well rounded man in the future.

My most cherished moments at Cathedral are probably the road trips I had with the soccer team to play in regional soccer tournaments and the TAPPS state finals. What I miss the most is walking through the hallways with a big smile on my face and saying hi to everyone. Regardless if I knew them or not although being such a small school, I felt like I knew most people.

After Cathedral, I attended St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas where I graduated with a double major in Marketing and International Business as well as a minor in Communication. Before graduating, I interned at Hispanic events agency Mercury Mambo as well as Hispanic ad shop LatinWorks for a year. Upon graduation, I worked for a Hispanic marketing agency called Richards/Lerma (part of The Richards Group), developing national television, radio, and digital advertising for their biggest retail account, The Home Depot.

I currently live in Dallas, Texas and work at Anheuser-Busch InBev, the largest brewer in the world, as a regional Brand Manager working on local campaigns and programs for brands such as Bud Light, Budweiser, Michelob Ultra, Stella Artois among many more. My experiences at Cathedral have helped shape my hard work ethic and drive to accomplish great things in life.

“What are you proudest of?”
Making my friends and family proud after graduating from college with a job already secured, in a time when the job market was limited and it was hard to find a job.

“What lesson from Cathedral do you carry with you?”
Work hard but at the same time, don’t forget to have fun as well. At Cathedral we had some tough classes and everyone was heavily involved in extra-curricular activities, making it even harder to do well but don’t forget to smile and enjoy the ride!!!

“Do you have a message (lesson/observation) for a current Cathedral student?”
Never forget where you come from. Cathedral is a very special place and it will take you far but always look back and remember how it made you feel and how it developed you into the person you are.
