Enrique Lemus ’07

I graduated from Cathedral in 2007. I was a member of the Speech and Debate team, the National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society. My parents chose Cathedral for me because they believed it would not only provide the best educational opportunities, but would also nurture the person as a whole: mind, heart and soul.

Some of my best memories during that period were the moments spent in those halls, learning and laughing with friends and spending time with great classmates and teachers on a daily basis. Cathedral set the tone for my life going forward, reminding me to always value knowledge and friendship as part of a more holistic education.

After Cathedral, I graduated from Georgetown University with a B.A. in Philosophy and Political Science with a minor in Theology. I went on to attend Columbia Law School and graduated with my J.D. in 2014. I am currently an attorney at Jones Day in Dallas, where my experiences have ranged from representing and advising corporate clients in labor and employment matters, to assisting with the representation of clients before the Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The leadership and professional skills that I learned and developed at Cathedral have helped me succeed throughout these different stages of life, and I am happy to know that all students that have sat in those classrooms share my experience and are better people for it.

“What are you proudest of?”
My brothers (one is also an alum, and the other is currently at Cathedral). I am proud of the well-rounded, conscientious men they have become. They reflect the values and possess the character traits that my parents wanted us to have, and that Cathedral helped develop.

“What lesson from Cathedral do you carry with you?”
It is important to be a diligent person and a hard worker—but remember to allow yourself to have a good laugh with the people around you and appreciate the moments you get to spend with friends and classmates. Cathedral provided me with over a hundred people I feel comfortable calling my brothers. They were, and still are, supportive of what I do, and have made the journey a lot of fun.

“Do you have a message (lesson/observation) for a current Cathedral student?”
You may think the “brotherhood” thing sounds cliché, but it is constantly used to describe Cathedral for a reason: generation after generation have proven that the one thing that never changes at that school is that the students feel like brothers. Befriend as many of your classmates as possible and always keep in touch. You will go to college, get jobs and make new friends, but your Cathedral friendships are some of the strongest bonds you will ever have. You will also enjoy hearing about the cool things your classmates end up doing with their lives. Most of them will be very interesting.
