David Saucedo ’03

I graduated from Cathedral in 2003. While at Cathedral, I was student body president, captain of the varsity basketball team, a state-qualified debater on the speech & debate team, amazing singer in the choir, gradated in the Top 10 of my class, and, of course, I was always a charming, sweet young man.

For me, Cathedral was everything I thought it would be and it truly impacted my life. My father graduated from Cathedral in 1978 and he kept telling me that those were the best years of his life, I didn’t think twice about not attending Cathedral. I experienced several memorable moments with my brothers at Cathedral – such as, cramming for Brother Nick’s AP History exam or “the Zoo” on Friday nights, to name a few.

After Cathedral I attended the University of Notre Dame and received a degree in Accountancy in 2007. I worked as an accountant for about five years before I decided to “retire” and join our nearly century-old family business. I am now the President of The Saucedo Lock Company, a business my great-grandfather started in 1917. I’m also heavily involved in various non-profits and civic organizations. Cathedral taught me to cherish the bonds we all have as brothers. Truly, our city of El Paso is great due to the Cathedral brethren that have gone before us to transform its landscape. I believe it is incumbent upon future Cathedral generations to lead the way forward for our great community.

“What are you proudest of?”
I’m proud that I can share in the rich history of our brotherhood. It is a privilege to graduate from Cathedral and join the ranks of our powerful alumni network.

“What lesson from Cathedral do you carry with you?”
Be honest and be on time.” Our entire existence at Cathedral revolved around that and it’s something I carry with me to this day. As we get older, time is something that is precious and we need to cherish.

“Do you have a message (lesson/observation) for a current Cathedral student?”
Enjoy and trust your Cathedral brothers because these are the men that will be standing by your side for the rest of your life. It’s a benefit of the brotherhood and something not many people understand.
