Alejandro Baca ’09

I am a proud member of Cathedral High School’s class of 2009. During my education at “La Cate” I was part of the Irish 30 group selected by the Principal of the school at that time and played two years of Irish Varsity Basketball.

During my junior-high education at Colegio Latino Americano or better known as “El Teresiano” in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, a lot of questions arose in where to pursue my education. While most of my friends decided to pursue their education in Mexico, my parents and I opted to attend Cathedral because of the opportunities presented by studying in the U.S. and the education, not just academically but morally as well, that I would acquire.

I cherish most moments at Cathedral, the aspect I have missed most is the everyday Brotherhood that we all created during our years there.

After my years at Cathedral I attended The University of Texas at El Paso, where I attained a Bachelors degree of Science in Biology in 2013. During my time at UTEP, I decided to get involved in different organizations such as New Student Orientation, Student Government Association, among others, because Cathedral taught me that the more involved we are with the community the more paths we create for better opportunities.

I currently work at Omega Trucking, Inc. in the Operation’s Department offering customers Door-to-Door transportation in and between the U.S. and Mexico. Working in logistics requires you to take action and solve problems in a promptly manner without losing control and maintaining great customer service with customers. I believe these skills were awakened during my time at Cathedral because of the whole faculty and staff that I grew up with during high school.

“What are you proudest of?”
I am proudest of the Brotherhood created every year among Cathedral students, and how students grow knowing that we all have a mission to improve the world we all live in. I am proud of living in a city where borders exist between Mexico and the U.S. and not experiencing it while in school. I am proud that no matter who you are or where you come from, one is always welcome to form part of a brotherhood, and one is educated in such way that you learn to value the people that live around you, and I believe that is La Cate Way.

“What lesson from Cathedral do you carry with you?”
The lesson I carry from Cathedral is that life isn’t easy; we still have a long way to go in accomplishing our mission in this world, and that we should never forget where we come from and those who have helped us to be where we are now.

“Do you have a message (lesson/observation) for a current Cathedral student?”
For all current and future Cathedral students, the message I have for them is to enjoy their days at La Cate. Enjoy every class, learn from every professor, and every faculty members. They are all there for a reason, and that reason is to help you become Men of God and accomplish big things in life.
