Adrian Perez ’04

I graduated from Cathedral in 2004, but many of my experiences there feel like just a moment ago. I began my education with kindergarten at St. Raphael School and attended Catholic school my entire life. Like many of my classmates, my older brother attended and graduated from Cathedral, so I was well aware of Cathedral’s traditions and since elementary school was sure I would attend. While there, I participated in extracurricular activities such as basketball and other sports, being a part of the National Honor Society, and community service events such as Casas Por Cristo. After graduating from Cathedral, I went on to study Mathematics at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas, and went on to earn a Master of Science in Applied Statistics at the University of Texas, San Antonio in 2011.

Cathedral is a special place because the Catholic faith is at the center of every school activity. Every class begins with prayer and throughout my time there I learned so much about my religion and faith in general. I had unique experiences such as a two week trip to Spain and wearing a “beanie” during homecoming week as a freshman, but also experiences one might expect from any other high school, such as “pep rallies” and homecoming dances. Above all, I cherish the friendships I made at Cathedral. While I do not keep in contact with all my fellow Irishmen, whenever we do reconnect we often pick up right where we left off.

Currently I am a Statistician in the Human Resources department of a retail company in San Antonio. Before that I worked and lived in the Washington, DC area as a consultant and financial modeler. The experiences I had at Cathedral help me to be focused and hard working in every job opportunity available to me. Cathedral gave me the confidence I have today and that has helped me progress my career in ways I could not have imagined during my time in high school. I am forever grateful for everything Cathedral has provided me and draw on my experiences during my time there to be the best father and husband possible to my family.

“What are you proudest of?”
I’m proudest of my wife and son. I would not be the person I am today without them and I hope to make them just as proud of me as I am of them.

“What lesson from Cathedral do you carry with you?”
Integrity. I learned from Cathedral that your integrity is something one should never sacrifice.

“Do you have a message (lesson/observation) for a current Cathedral student?”
Try to soak up all the time with your friends and teachers. Cathedral is a special place that is not fully appreciated until your time there is over, so make the most of every day. The experiences you have teach you just as much as your teachers and textbooks do.
